Davie Burns Trotter Davie was the 11th and last child of the Alex and Annie Trotter family. He was born on the 13.10.1902 and died on 14.4.1989. He was 86 years old. His father Alex was 56 years old when Davie was born and Davie was 17 years old when Alex died. Dave married Mavis Rosaline Crawshaw on the 30.5.1934 Dave was 31yrs old and Mavis 28. They had 3 children, Michael Davie, born on the 29.5.1935, Sybil born on 8.3.1939 and Roger Louis born 15.10.1946. As a result of a prolonged birth Sybil suffered brain damage and has never spoken. Dave was keen on boats early on and is said to have rowed a rowboat up the Mahaurangi River to go to Warkworth school. (Whereas his older sisters would have ridden horses) As a young man he qualified with a skipper's ticket and worked on small commercial barges and scows on the coast. Typical jobs he was on were hauling butter from the Rodey Dairy Factory and Puhoi Dairy Factory to Auckland. He inherited lot 5 the 60 acre block on Sandspit Road and during the Second World War as a Dairy Farmer there he was Manpowered by the Goverment to help run the ferry service to Kawau Island. This involved milking 30 cows morning and evening as well as doing the daily ferry schedules. He owned a small pleasure launch most of his life and was a keen on fishing and gameshooting. |
