Minto Whillans

Minto was the sixth child and fourth daughter of James Whillans and Jean Riddel.  Minto is an unusual name for a girl.  As the Whillans "Clan" were known to have lived about the Parish of Minto situated between Hawick and Jedburg, Scotland for a period of time it is assumed her naming was this  place name association.

Then another story comes from Annette Clark a direct descendant of Minto Trotter. To quote:

My story passed down through the family (Hutchingson) states that My Aunty Minto (my mothers sister)who died in Kempton Tasmania a few years back now was named after great grandmother Minto Trotter who was named after the Earl of Minto back in Scotland ( I have checked out the proximity of this estate and it is within reason that they might well have lived there on the estate) we were told that great grandfather Trotter used to be a game keeper come grounds man and they the family lived on the estate in a cottage provided by the Earl of Minto

Comment: She lived at the estate when she had grown up and married to James Trotter.?

Comment and conclusion.

1.              Minto married James.

2.              Their fifth child was son Andrew.

3.              Andrew married Isabella Burns.

4.              The names Minto and Burns have passed down through succeeding generations confirming these lines of succession.

5.              It seems to be, Minto and James are the "parents" of the "Minto branch" of our family tree.
